All That Remains - Test Footage (2012)

(Special Effects Test)

"When 'All That Remains' was in its early stages, I decided I didn't really want to pursue it further unless I was able to pull off what was the biggest visual challenge within the story; a knife being thrown by one character into another character's throat. In this test, I focused on the basics; the knife throw itself. 'All That Remains' was completed about six months later."

General Test Footage (2013)

(Special Effects Test)

"This was my first attempt at using a green/blue screen with digital effects. However, in this video, I wanted to take it a step further than that. Here you'll see James Cowin, a long time contributor to the cause, take a leaf blower filled with natural dirt at full blast to his face. The thought was to try to mingle in-camera practical effects with digital assets. It lead me to continue down this path and I still use these techniques to this day."

General Test Footage (2018)

(Special Effects Test)

"Nearly five years later and with completely different equipment, I attempted my second green/blue screen test. At that time I was still pretty low-budget, meaning the green screen is actually just $1.00 poster paper taped to the wall and I had to use myself as the test subject. This was the first time I used the artificial camera shake effect to blend the digital assets in with the camera footage. This is the exact technique we used in 'Dead Falls' for the up close gun violence."

Chicken Shakes - Test Footage (2018)

(Interior Camera Test)

The music heard in this piece of test footage is the song

'Go It Alone' by Beck

"Using more new equipment, I documented Joey Doyon as he prepared what he calls 'Chicken Shakes' for his fitness plan. This was also a first glimpse at what Dirigo Motion Pictures promotional videos would look like."

The Forge - Test Footage (2019)

(Exterior Camera Test)

The music heard in this piece of test footage is the song

'You Don't Miss Twice When You're Shavin' With a Knife' by Murder by Death

"One day, I was informed that Joey and his neighbor had attempted to create a homemade forge in his backyard. I had a new lens so I arrived to document and test."

Stop Motion - Test Footage (2020)

(Stop Motion Test)

"My roots in cinema and filmmaking started with creating stop motion on a VHS camcorder when I was eight years old. In 2020 at age 25, I spent about 10 hours over a weekend creating new stop motion with my modern technology. I only made it at four frames per second and if I were to do it again I would really take my time. This actually turned out to be quite comical and reminds me of the movie 'Small Soldiers'."

Cannon Blast - Test Footage (2020)

 (Special Effects Test)

"'The Elephant Book' is a project that is still in its early concepts. It is another western and this one involves a cannon being fired onscreen at a target across a river. I did not want to go any further with the idea unless I was able to create a convincing live action cannon, that being the biggest visual challenge within the story. So in 2020, I ordered a model cannon online for $25.oo. I spent a few hours in my studio getting different angles of it against the green screen, then I went outside and gathered footage of the river. The result was this. I hope for 'The Elephant Book' to be released in 2025."

Promo Test Footage (2024)

 (Promo Video Test)

The music track heard in this video was properly purchased and licensed legally through Adobe Stock.

"In this test, the aim is to showcase the product of a local business through the use of a quick and effective montage. Little videos like this can go a long way across social media."
